RUDI BAUER

Whether on the world's great festival stages, in renowned orchestras, or in exchanges with students – Rudi Bauer lives and breathes music in all its facets. His path as a drummer is characterized by curiosity, creativity, and the joy of inspiring people with rhythm.

Through his diverse work as a soloist, ensemble member, and lecturer, he combines artistic excellence with a passion for teaching. With each project, he sets new trends and demonstrates the boundless nature of music's language.

Rudi Bauer, born and raised in Erding, discovered his passion for rhythm and drums at an early age. He gave his first performance in his grandmother's kitchen – his first real drum kit followed at age 14, as did the founding of his first rock band and classical drum training.

Just two years later, he won second prize at the national "Jugend musiziert" competition in the percussion/ensemble category. At the age of 19, he finally won first prize at the national level in the percussion/solo category.

Rudi Bauer completed his studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich under Prof. Dr. Dr. hc Peter Sadlo. Later, he attended a master class with Prof. Edgar Guggeis and a guest study period with Prof. Franz Lang in Trossingen.

In 1997 he participated in the ARD Music Competition and emerged as the most successful German drummer.

Even during this time, the wide range of musical styles in which Bauer is still active today became apparent.

Rudi Bauer is a founding member of the group "Power Percussion!", Germany's first show centered around rhythm, which enjoyed great success worldwide until 2018. Since then, he has continued to perform with former colleagues under the name "The Drum Power" at corporate events and private functions.

Furthermore, he appears as a soloist and chamber musician at international festivals, including the Hong Kong Drum Festival, the Salzburg Festival, and the New Music Festival St. Petersburg. Concert tours have taken him throughout Europe, Asia, and South America to prestigious concert halls – from the Oriental Art Center Shanghai and the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg to the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires.

Rudi Bauer regularly performs concerts in Asia with his former university friend, the Chinese percussion soloist Li Biao. In 2014, the internationally acclaimed Li Biao Percussion Group toured South America with them.

As principal timpanist and percussionist, Rudi Bauer worked closely with the Munich Chamber Orchestra. He also had guest engagements with the Bavarian State Orchestra, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Munich Philharmonic, the Stuttgart State Orchestra, the Stuttgart Philharmonic, Klangforum Wien, and many other renowned ensembles.

He played under conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Kent Nagano and Semyon Bychkov; he was particularly impressed by the musical collaboration with the old masters Sergiu Celibidache and Sir George Solti.

In addition, he worked as a percussionist at the Residenztheater and the Kammerspiele in Munich, including in productions by Dieter Dorn.

Rudi Bauer has participated in numerous radio and television productions (BR, ARD, ZDF, RBB, SWR, MDR, NDR, CCTV 4/China). He is also featured on CD releases from labels such as Deutsche Grammophon, Sony Music, and EMI Classics.

From 2008 to 2014, he was a lecturer in percussion and rhythmics at the University of Catholic Church Music in Regensburg. Since 2019, he has been a lecturer in percussion at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich in the departments of elementary music education and secondary school teaching.

He regularly shares his experience as an educator, percussionist and performer in workshops for children and young people and in team drumming events for adults.

In addition to his concert and teaching activities, Rudi Bauer is also active as a co-author, arranger and composer.
